Biography
Tara Taneja (b. 2008) is a Singapore-based vocalist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. She trains in contemporary, pop, and rock under Syakirah Noble, one of Singapore's most distinctive singer-songwriters; in choral artistry under Dr. Darius Lim, Founder and Artistic Director of Voices of Singapore, the nation's largest choral organization; and in classical and operatic technique under Alexandra Novicova, a Singapore-based vocal coach whose students have won competitions internationally.
Through Dr. Lim, Tara is a Choral Scholar with Voices of Singapore, a distinction reserved for singers of national and international calibre. She has performed as a featured soloist at the Voices of Singapore Festival, where Dr. Lim invited UK conductor Mat Wright, Director of the Barnsley Youth Choir, as guest artist. She also represented Singapore on the Hong Kong Inter-School Choral Festival Tour, performing across multiple venues including a filming session at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
In February 2026, Tara was one of 15 singers selected as a backup vocalist for the Josh Groban World Tour at Star Theatre, Singapore. In October 2025, she was one of 12 performers chosen to sing the National Anthem at the Singapore F1 Grand Prix Opening Ceremony. She was selected for the National Day Parade recording in August 2025, and in November 2024, after three rounds of open auditions that drew candidates from across Singapore under age 18, she was one of just 83 performers chosen for ChildAid, Singapore's flagship national charity concert, which raised over $2.1 million for underprivileged children.
Tara is also a songwriter and producer. Her debut original single, "All of Us," a song about unity, she wrote, composed, harmonized, played guitar on, and recorded in studio. It's available on YouTube and has been performed live at concerts in Singapore. She is Lead Vocalist of Geocentric, her school's rock band at UWCSEA, performing at fundraising concerts and school events.
Over four years with the Music and Movement Service at UWCSEA, Tara progressed from member to Co-Chair, now leading a weekly programme of music, movement, and fitness sessions for children aged three to five, including children with disabilities. She interned at the Singapore Repertory Theatre, deepening her commitment to arts-based service, and today is a Teaching Apprentice on the Starlight Programme with Voices of Singapore / Venture Music Asia Ltd., delivering weekly teaching for children and youth aged 7–18 with special needs, including autism.
